DEFINe
We gathered our information from our users and created a composite archetype, a persona. Our persona represents the behavior patterns, goals, skills, attitudes and captures beliefs, personal philosophies, motivations, and intentions.
Creating a persona goes deeper than demographics because it is based on the information we gathered from our interviews with various bayside gardeners and leaders. Giving our persona a name, such as Karmin keeps our empathy stage threaded within our design of the product.
MEET KARMIN
Middle aged mother who loves to volunteer and garden because she aligned her passion with her work.
When Karmin’s schedule allows she goes to the community garden, or volunteering elsewhere at Linda Vista. She enjoys spending time with her daughter and teaching others how to organically garden. She is pleased when seeing the fruits of her labor.
Believes that the community garden positively influences the community. It is a place to meet people, grow food, learn new things, escape, etc.
Believes people should not take more than they need. Self-Starter when it comes to leading in the community.
Karmin wants to help the community of Linda Vista and by tending the garden it grants access to to healthier, fresh, organic food. She also loves going to the garden because it helps her escape from the rigors of daily life.

"I am sad about the move even though I know it is for the better..."
Karmin wants to expand Bayside in order to provide more food for the Linda community. Additionally, she does not want to sell out at the Farmer’s market across the street too early on in order to provide more funding because the Community Garden needs more funding. She wants to help as many people of the Linda Vista community as possible. Furthermore, she wants a convenient method of transporting food to the farmer’s market that is right across the street.

OUR DESIGN CHALLENGE
With the transition of the garden to a new area, the garden leaders need to ensure that current services of providing gardening space for community members are met. Our challenge is to boost Bayside’s ability to maximize produce and gardening space for community members from the minimal space provided to them. Ultimately, it is to provide the community of Linda Vista with affordable, healthy options and thus support food security via the plant beds and farmers market.
